Data accuracy policy
Last reviewed: September 8, 2026
The rules every page follows
- Every date has a source. Each schedule entry carries a link to the official release it came from — an RGI circular, a PIB press release, a gazette notification, or a state government announcement.
- No inferred dates. If a state's houselisting window has not been publicly announced, we say "within April–September 2026" — we never guess a specific window.
- Unconfirmed means labelled. When a date is reported by credible news media but not yet confirmed in an official release, it is displayed with an explicit "unconfirmed" marker (†).
- No projections. We never publish estimated or modelled census figures. Population data on this site is from Census 2011 (labelled as such) until official 2027 figures release.
- Changes are logged. Schedule changes appear in the updates feed with the release that triggered them. The government can and does revise census dates; when it happens, we update within 24 hours and email subscribers.
Source hierarchy
When sources conflict, we trust in this order:
- Gazette of India notifications (legal instrument)
- Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner (censusindia.gov.in)
- PIB press releases and official press conferences
- State census directorate announcements
- Established national media (labelled "unconfirmed" until officially corroborated)
