Household Schedule UPSC relevant
The Household Schedule is the Phase 2 (Population Enumeration) questionnaire, canvassed person by person for every member of every household. On August 14, 2026 the MHA notified the full set of 40 questions for Census 2027 through the Office of the Registrar General, India.
Reported contents include demographic particulars (name, sex, age, marital status, relationship to head), religion, and question 10 — 'Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Caste' — where enumerators record caste exactly as declared in an open column; plus education and literacy, language and mother tongue, disability, economic activity, migration and fertility details for ever-married women. The 2027 schedule marks the first general caste column since 1931.
It will be canvassed digitally in February 2027 (earlier in snow-bound areas, where enumeration began in August 2026 per news reports).
